Příběh jednoho stadiónu: Estadio Santiago Barnabéu
Real Madrid dělal své první kroky na stadiónu "Campo de la Estrada". Klub byl oficiálně založen roku 1902 a do roku 1912 hráli v Narvaez. Ale první „pořádné hřiště“, které klubu patřilo se jmenovalo O´Donell a bylo postaveno za 6000 pesetu.

Byl otevřen přátelským utkáním 17.května 1924 proti Newcastlu United. Po pár letech, kdy byl zničen při občanské válce, byl roku 1939 znovu otevřen. 1943 se začala plánovat stavba nového stadiónu. Starý Chamartínský stadión, který byl otevřen r.1924 a měl kapacitu 22500 míst začal být pro neustále se rozrůstající počet fanoušků nedostatečný. Nový stadión měl být postaven nedaleko starého Chamartínského stadiónu. Cena pozemků ale byla 2milióny pesetu a klub neměl dostatek financí, bylo naplánováno, že se pozemky koupí za spoluúčasti 4 velkých bank, ale tyto plány byly zanedlouho zrušeny. Ale klub a hlavně jeden muž se nevzdávali, jeho jméno bylo Don Santiago Barnabeú. Už při jeho zvolení prezidentem 17.září 1943 měl jeden sen. Tento sen měl filozofii, že malý stadión vydělává málo, a velký stadion vydělává moc financí, které byly uplatňovány v nákupu nových hráčů. „Don Santi“ v této době snil o stadiónu pro 100000 diváků. Klubu nakonec pomohla Španělská banka Banco Mercantil. Pozemky byly koupeny 22.června 1944. Jen 3 roky poté, 14.prosince 1947 byl otevřen stadión pro 75342 diváků ( z toho bylo 47500 míst na stání). Stadión byl pojmenován jako Chamartínský Stadión. Byl nejmodernější ve Španělsku a byl pravidelně renovován. Časem byla kapacita zvětšena na 100000 míst (z toho většina byla na stání) a „Don Santimu“ se splnil jeho sen.
Tehdy měl stadion na pravé straně ještě „výřez“,tam byly 14.prosince 1957 rozšířeny tribuny a celková kapacita se tak vyšplhala na 125000 míst (27900 míst na sezení a 97100 na stání). Dohodlo se, že se stadión přejmenuje. Při znovuotevření bylo jméno vypuštěno do světa, Obrovský a krásný stadión byl pojmenován na počest prezidenta „Estadio Santiago Barnabeú“. 4.4.1958 diváci udělali nový rekord, když proti Vasal Budapešť přišlo 135000 fanoušků.
Před mistrovstvím světa 1982 se uskutečnila další přestavba, kapacita byla snížena na „jen“ 90200 míst (50200 na sezení a 40000 na stání). 1990 byly stanoveny plány pro velkou renovaci. Největší problém byly opět peníze. Na projekt bylo vynaloženo 4 milióny pesetů.

Výstavba
Ciudad Real Madrid leží na Severo-východě od Madridu, v nové čtvrti Valdebebas, v blízkosti letiště Barajas a výstaviště IFEMA. Až bude definitivně dokončeno, má mít rozlohu asi 120 hektarů a má se stát největším tréninkovým centrem světa. V říjnu 2005 byla otevřena 1. část areálu. V ní jsou umístěny komplexy pro 1. mužstvo a pro 15 dorosteneckých týmů, zabírá 20 hektarů. Mimo fotbalové hřiště se na území nacházejí ještě bary, klinika, sportovní haly a jiná zařízení.
